SINCE YOU CAME.
BEFORE you came I loved these wooded hills,This willow-bordered stream, where in the springThe bluebirds woo their feathered mates to singAmong the yellow catkins. Ever thrillsMy heart with joy, when by these laughing rillsI hear the oriole call; and watch how whiteThe sailing clouds are mirrored in the brightClear pools. Here beauty all my doubts and longings stillsWhen I remember thus God can let fallHis image in the heart that is at rest. But since you came, since your love lendeth allA newer beauty, how divinely blestAm I! Yet, my belovèd, where you callI come; with you earth's worst place were the best.
