Gathered in greatness, ere his glory faded,A shining sun, snatched from meridian height—Rare, perfect soul, with every virtue laded,Flown like a flashing star, thro' realms of light. In every heart is felt the throb of sadness,Each bosom trembles to the pulse of pain,Lamenting this dark deed of crime or madness,Dyeing the nation with its crimson stain.
