FRIENDSHIP
When the heart's oppress'd by grief,It seeks in vain to find reliefIn Pleasure's maddening throng:
Though for awhile it may affordSome little respite, yet the loadReturns with double weight.
But in a friendly faithful breastIt finds the haven of its rest,And smiles in silent peace.
Although the wound resist a cure,'Tis lull'd by friendship's balsam pure,And rests in calm repose:
Though sorrow manifold we see,Yet wretched we can never be,If heaven bestows a friend.
