TO THE SUN.

Thou beauteous orb of Light, who shin'st on high,
Adding fresh lustre to the dazzling sky,
Darting thy radiant beams on earth and sea,
Gilding thy Maker's works with brilliancy.

When thou dost run thy course through heav'n's high arch,
Or to the mighty depths of ocean search,
Proclaim aloud, and tell from pole to pole,
He who created thee did form the whole;

Declare to ev'ry nation, ev'ry land,
The wond'rous works of his Almighty hand,
Let ev'ry beam of light which thou dost bear,
Expand the soul of man in grateful prayer.
