ODE TO FRIENDSHIP.
"Friendship above all ties doth bind the heart; And faith in friendship is the noblest part." Earl of Orrery—Henry the Fifth.
Let those who scoff at Friendship's name, For others ne'er profess a flame Which they can never feel.
Sure friendship's near akin to love; 'Tis cherished by the saints above, And recognized in heaven.
Oh, I have felt its gentle power; It soothed me in the bitterest hour Of anguish and of strife.
When worn with sorrow and with care, I've turned and found a solace there, Naught else on earth could give.
