Poems (Van Rensselaer)/The Cup and the Wine
Appearance
THE CUP AND THE WINE
Brief, cried the Psalmist, is the total span
Of the brief days that build the life of man.
—Ay, royal singer on Judean hills,
The cup is narrow; but the wine that fills
The cup may mean an ocean in its rim.
A thousand years are as a day to Him
Who pours our draughts of joy and tears:
To us a day may be a thousand years.
