1926 Miami hurricane

The 1926 Miami hurricane was a devastating storm that caused catastrophic damage across Florida, the Bahamas, and the U.S. Gulf Coast, causing economic losses around $100 million. Striking Miami as a Category 4 hurricane on September 18, the hurricane caused widespread destruction and hundreds of deaths, many of which were from flooding near Lake Okeechobee. The storm also had long-lasting economic effects, ending Florida’s land boom and contributing to the early onset of the Great Depression in the state.
