American Youth Congress

Left-wing organization in the United States that advocated the empowerment of young people, labor and racial minorities. Founded in 1935, it was investigated by the Dies Committee of the United States House of Representatives in 1939. Although the organization enjoyed the support of Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it dissolved in 1940. The American Youth Congress is sometimes credited as the force behind launching the National Youth Administration, a New Deal program aimed at job training for unemployed youth

Representatives of American Youth Congress testify at Dies hearing, November 30, 1939.
