Death of his wife. "Mrs. Eva S. Rogers Oldrin, the widow of J.M. Oldrin, formerly a prominent real estate dealer here and for many years editor of the Sea Cliff News, died at the Nassau Hospital Saturday, the 30th of June."
His obituary. "John Merwin Oldrin. who died last night in New York, was one of Sea Cliff's pioneer residents and a native born Long Islander. He claimed as his birthplace Westhampton, Long Island. His father, the Rev. Edward Oldrin, a Methodist minister, was a native of the South of England, but who came to this country early in his career. Mr. Oldrin was the eldest of the family, and his father, who believed In the advantages of a good education, did all in his power to see that his son got it. …"
"Mr. Oldrin was born at West Hampton, February 21, 1836, a son of Rev. Edward and Catharine (De Freyenhagen) Oldrin. The father was born in Suffolk County, England, in 1803, and was a self-educated man. When but a young man he came to America and here learned the tanner and currier's trade, which he followed but a short time, for after his conversion in the Methodist Church he became an exhorter and later an ordained minister."
