PROCLAMATION NO. 298

LIFTING THE STATE OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY ON ACCOUNT OF
LAWLESS VIOLENCE IN MINDANAO

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 55 dated 04 September 2016 (s. 2016) declared a State of National Emergency in Mindanao in view of the lawless violence perpetrated by private armies and local warlords, bandits, criminal syndicates, terrorist groups, and religious extremists across the island group;

WHEREAS, through successful focused military and law enforcement operations and programs that promote sustainable and inclusive peace, the government has made significant gains in improving and restoring peace and order in the region;

WHEREAS, the conditions then prevailing for which Proclamation No. 55 (s. 2016) was issued have been significantly mitigated or reduced;

WHEREAS, the lifting of Proclamation No. 55 (s. 2016) will boost economic activity and hasten the recovery of the local economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND R. MARCOS JR., President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby lift the state of national emergency on account of lawless violence in Mindanao, effective immediately.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
