The President and his official party were greeted by U.S. Amb. H. Gardner Ackley and Italian officials including:

The President and his official party accompanied by President Guiseppe Saragat motored to the Quirenal Palace.

The President and President Giuseppe Saragat met privately for some time and then joined with other officials of their two countries for additional talks. For a list of those present, see APPENDIX "D".

Later that even{ng the President and his official party were guests of President Guiseppe Saragat for a black tie dinner at the Quirinale Palace. Approximately 140 guests attended.

Following the dinner the President attended a reception and conversations with leading Italian citizens. For list of the citizens, see APPENDIX "E".

The President then returned to his apartment in the Quirinale Palace for the night.
