Entered the royal navy in May 1813; obtained his first commission on the 25th Aug. 1824; and was advanced to his present rank Oct. 20th, 1831; previous to which he had acted as commander of the Medina 20, on the African station. He was appointed to the command of the Salamander steamship, Feb. 15th, 1834.
