CHARLES HOTHAM, Esq.
[Captain of 1833.]
Obtained his first commission in Sept. 1825; and was advanced to the rank of commander, by H.R.H. the Lord High Admiral, Aug. 18th, 1828, for distinguished services whilst senior lieutenant of the Terror bomb. Commander David Hope, on the coast of Portugal[1]. He was appointed to the Cordelia sloop, Mar. 17th, 1830; and made captain on the 28th June, 1833 – “a special promotion for the late Vice-Admiral Sir Henry Hotham,” under whose orders he had been for some time serving on the Mediterranean station; from whence he returned home in the Cordelia, Oct. 15th following.
