Fourth son of the Earl of Albemarle, by his first countess, Elizabeth, fourth daughter of Edward Lord De Clifford. This officer was made a lieutenant in Jan. 1829; advanced to the rank of commander on the 30th Jan. 1833; and appointed to the Childers sloop, fitting out for the Mediterranean station, May 16th, 1834. He sailed from Portsmouth on the 27th July following.
