Obtained his first commission in 1794; and served as a lieutenant of the Defence 74, Captain John Peyton, at the memorable battle of the Nile; and of the Windsor Castle 98, Captain Charles Boyles, in Sir Robert Calder’s action with the combined fleets of France and Spain, July 22d. 1805. We next find him flag-lieutenant to Rear-Admiral Thomas Wells, at Sheerness, where he continued from the end of 1808 until promoted to the rank of commander, May 4th, 1810. The out-pension of Greenwich Hospital was granted to him in Nov. 1827.
