RICHARD OWEN, Esq.
[Commander.]

Son of a clergyman in county Wexford, Ireland. He entered the royal navy in 181 1; obtained the rank of lieutenant in Feb. 1821; and was appointed to the Leven 24, Captain W. Fitzwilliam Owen, fitting out for a scientific voyage, Nov. 14th, 1821; since which period he has been almost constantly employed as a maritime surveyor, on the African and West India stations. He was made a commander in Sept. 1820; appointed to the Blossom sloop, May 27th, 1829; and is now continuing his surveys in the Thunder, which vessel sailed from England on the 28th June, 1833.
