NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
423 AM PDT MON SEP 4 2006

...FLASH FLOOD TODAY FROM NOON UNTIL 8 PM FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS..

.MONSOONAL MOISTURE AND MOISTURE FROM THE REMNANTS OF ONCE
HURRICANE "JOHN" WILL BRING SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS TO THE
MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS. THESE STORMS WILL BE SLOW MOVING AND
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LOCAL RAINFALL OF ONE INCH IN 30 MINUTES. 

THE FLOOD THREAT WILL BE GREATEST OVER RECENT BURN AREAS..
INCLUDING THE MILLARD AND SAWTOOTH FIRES IN SAN BERNARDINO AND
RIVERSIDE COUNTIES AND THE HORSE FIRE IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY. MUD AND
DEBRIS FLOWS WILL BE POSSIBLE. 

THE THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING MAY CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY BEFORE
A WEAK TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE FROM THE NORTHWEST BEGINS TO BRING
SLOW DRYING THE LATTER HALF OF THE WEEK.

THROUGH THIS EVENING..

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR 

* A PORTION OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
  AREAS...IN SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA...APPLE AND LUCERNE VALLEYS..
  COACHELLA VALLEY...RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS...SAN BERNARDINO
  COUNTY MOUNTAINS...SAN DIEGO COUNTY DESERTS AND SAN DIEGO
  COUNTY MOUNTAINS.

* FROM NOON PDT TODAY THROUGH 8 PM THIS EVENING

* THE HIGHEST THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING WILL BE NEAR RECENT BURN
  AREAS

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

THERE IS A THREAT OF MUDSLIDES AND DEBRIS FLOWS...ESPECIALLY IN
AND BELOW BURNED AREAS. ALL RESIDENTS LIVING ON OR NEAR HILLSIDES
OR MOUNTAIN SLOPES SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE MUDSLIDES AND
DEBRIS FLOWS.

PERSONS HIKING OR CAMPING IN OR NEAR NORMALLY DRY WASHES SHOULD BE
PREPARED TO MOVE QUICKLY TO HIGHER GROUND IF A THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPS IN OR NEAR YOUR LOCATION. RAINFALL FROM A NEARBY
THUNDERSTORM OVER HIGHER TERRAIN CAN MOVE QUICKLY DOWNSTREAM
FLOODING YOUR LOCATION...EVEN IF THERE IS LITTLE OR NO RAINFALL AT
YOUR LOCATION.
