Let’s Play

Hakushū Kitahara

“Come! Let’s play! Let’s play!”
Look! They are coming; they are calling.
Children’s voices I hear.

“Come! Let’s play! Let’s play!”
’Tis a bright, bright sunny day and at noon—
From somewhere, someone already comes calling.

The garden, the chrysanthemums in the garden;
A somewhat bright and cheery day;
A somewhat quiet and dreary day.

“Come! Let’s play! Let’s play!”
Always someone comes to call;
Always from the backyard calls.
