The faithful postman always comes
At sunset time by the cornfield way,
And the cicadas also begin to sing.
The postman comes with his shadow long
By the cornfield where the red clusters hang,
Swinging both hands there he comes.
Smiling through his bearded face,
The letter-carrying postman has
A bag that he has always had.
The postman comes but once a day
At sunset time by the cornfield way;
“Yes, my little boy, I’ll come again.”
I always long for the postman to come,
Why aren’t the cicadas here?
Isn’t someone’s letter coming to-day?
