Speech by Mario Draghi for the campaign "StandUpForUkraine"
Italy has welcomed refugees from Ukraine with open arms.
More than 85 thousand, mostly women and children, have sought shelter from the war, in our country.
Italians have thrown open the doors of their homes and of their schools. We will not look the other way.
In the last two weeks, the government has set aside new funds to help Ukrainian refugees meet their everyday expenses. This means food, medicines, school equipment.
Overall, we have allocated roughly 500 million euros to support Ukrainians arriving in Italy, and 110 million in financial assistance to the Ukrainian government.
We have given additional aid to those in Ukraine and neighbouring countries via the International Red Cross and other organisations.
In the face of war, we defend human life and help those in need.
Italy will stand up for Ukraine.
