According to Anton Treuer in his 2011 book The Assassination of Hole in the Day, Hole in the Day the Younger did not work to prevent Ojibwe from joining forces with the Dakoka in the Dakota War of 1862, as stated in the above reference. Treuer states just the opposite, that Hole in the Day spoke out in favor of going to war to help the Dakota drive the European settlers out of Minnesota.
