The translation is from official sources such as [1] or [2]. Nikola Smolenski 08:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

There were few very inapropriate translations!!! The person that translated either does not know Serbian properly or did not know English properly. The translations MUST NOT change the spirit of the original text. For example: "Боже правде, ти што спасе од пропасти до сад нас" talks about being saved from destruction/perishment/annihilation. It does NOT talk of bondages/slavery. This is NOT a tribute to occupation of Serbian people. So the translation that goes: "Righteous Lord; Thou who saved us When in deepest bondage cast," is not only not in the spirit of the anthem but it is inappropriate and borders on insulting.

Another example: "Нек на српској блиста грани братске слоге знатан плод," talks about unity and benefits of unity so it can NOT talk about Serbian freedom being a young tree. Serbian freedom is NOT young as Serbs have their first states (duchies, kindoms and later an empire)founded in the first millenium. So, such translation is not only inadequate but it ignores Serbian history. Serbia is one of the oldest states in Europe so it cannot have a YOUNG tree of freedom.

Yes, it is nice to have a poem with words that fit nicely together, HOWEVER one must not distort the spirit and the meaning of the poem just because it is more poetic in another language - otherwise that is a different poem. unsigned comment by 121.210.88.127 (talk) 21:14, 12 June 2008.
