The items included are not the constitution

[edit]

Hi, The items included are not the consitution. As a matter of fact Palestine has no constitution as of yet. The first item referred to here as the constitution of 1968 is the internal bylaws of Fateh. There is also the PLO Charter which was set originally in 1965 , modified in the 70's and re-modified in 1998 in a vote to drop out phrases that call for a one state solution. The PNA is currently functionning based on a basic law, a document similar to a constitution but has not been named so because it was not endorsed by the people of Palestine through a public referrendum. There is also a draft constitution which has been developed by the Constitution Writing Committee established by Yasser Arafat after 1996, which included a group of academics and politicians and consultants. The committee produced a draft constitution but this has not be adopted through a referrendum. It has no legal force. The Basic Law has the force of a constitution until a new one is endorsed. It has been developed and modified by the PLC and requires a two third majority to change.

Name?

[edit]

Is this really a "Constitution"? It continually refers to itself as a "Basic Law", along the lines of Germany's. 68.39.174.238 11:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
