the yellow dress

[edit]

"the yellow dress" is ambiguous in English, and could mean a dress - that is typically a woman's clothing that is colored yellow - or dress, that is clothing of no particular gender, that is colored yellow.

The sentence "the yellow dress" implies the former - a woman's gown - rather than the latter - clothing that is yellow.

I think the meaning is "a yellow robe" i.e. a Monk's robe, that is a way of referring to the adoption of a Monk's vows and lifestyle (one of righteousness, etc). -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:f598:ba60:365:e86a:319c:e236:7580 (talk) 16:52, 30 October 2021
