Copyright status of translations

@Sbh: Can I ask where exactly these translations come from? The Greek is obviously so old as to be public domain, but who did these English translations? Are they from Schneemelcher's "New Testament Apocrypha"? If so, that's a bit problematic, as that's still under copyright to my knowledge... for all that the quotations are so short that finding some random graduate student willing to re-translate them and put those equivalent translations into the public domain shouldn't be THAT hard. They are not from Schneemelcher's book; only the selection of items was taken from them. This was all covered in the original Gospel of the Hebrews page, which seems to be missing now.

It's been many years now since I did this, but this page was part of a revision I undertook to replace copyrighted items with PD equivalents. The original page (as I recall) included all references to Jewish-Christian gospels and was taken from a source under copyright. I divided the items into those belonging to the Gospel of the Hebrews, the Gospel of the Nazaraeans, and the Gospel of the Ebionites, following the arrangement in Hennecke-Schneemelcher, and replaced them with public domain equivalents, or translated them myself. At some point the list was divided into three pages, one for each of the gospels.

Since the other two pages have been eliminated, this one should probably be eliminated as well. All the translations given on this page are taken from the World English Bible (which is open source) or my own (labeled sbh in the notes). sbh (talk) 22:11, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

@Sbh: If they're your own translations, it's probably fine? I'd just consider maybe moving the article to something like "Gospel of the Nazaraeans: Wikisource translation" or the like to be clear where it's coming from, since the intro makes it sound like it might be from Schneemelcher.
