[edit]Norwikian Can you say more about the provenance of this text? I searched at the Internet Archive, compared the text to what I found there, and came up with nothing. -Pete (talk) 18:46, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Norwikian, BrandenJames: I found this text here. You'll need to log into an Internet Archive account to read the relevant note, but on p. 122 it attributes the translation to Norbert Guterman, published in New York 1958. Not sure whether copyright was renewed, but it seems uncertain whether or not the translation is in the public domain. -Pete (talk) 15:55, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- Is it not coming from this text? https://archive.org/details/A.EWaiteTheSecretTraditionInFreemasonry_20170511_0211/A.%20E%20Waite%20-%20A%20Book%20of%20Mystery%20and%20Vision%2C%201902/mode/1up BrandenJames (talk) 18:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @BrandenJames I'm pretty confident it's not. I've run multiple searches for bits of the Wikisource text against this work and other Waite works on the Internet Archive, and come up with nothing. But, it does clearly match the Guterman translation, which was apparently first published in 1958. Guterman's life was entirely in the 20th century, so he definitely didn't publish anything prior to Waite's work. Are you seeing something I've missed, though? -Pete (talk) 16:07, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- There was a renewal of a 1951 Guterman translation. I don't think this link will work, but you can run a new search: [1] The renewal was in September 1979, which is a strange date (it's much less than 27 years after initial publication); I'm not sure what to make of that. I'm also perplexed by the basis of the claim: "New Matter: "translation plus translation of new foreword written for this work in German but not published in German."" -Pete (talk) 16:21, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- ok, I'll remove the licence tag then BrandenJames (talk) 17:53, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Nvm, see that is already been done BrandenJames (talk) 17:54, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
