Article by issue number redlinking guide

[edit]

I keep this template handy in a text editor when redlinking tables of contents, as it helps indicate at a glance which issue number each article is located under. It works by first identifying which page each issue begins at (a bit of manual work, but they're usually in the roughly same vicinity in each volume, so start there and adjust up or down), then cross-referencing this with the page each article begins at; if the page of the article is between Number 3 and Number 4, the article must be within Number 3.

Volume 25

Number 1.....1...July 1919
Number 2...129...September 1919
Number 3...257...November 1919
Number 4...385...January 1920
Number 5...529...March 1920
Number 6...673...May 1920

The American Journal of Sociology/Volume 25/Number /

Remember to adjust all of this when editing a different volume! The Number-number is left blank to make it easy to add it in after pasting while transcribing. djr13 (talk) 14:56, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
