- The material in the pages for Volume 1 of this book were originally uploaded at The Thousand Nights and a Night by someone else from unspecified sources as one page exceeding 1 megabyte in length. The material has been moved from there to a series of separate pages for each story. That has served as a working text. Proofreading has been based on comparison with a hard copy of the (ca. 1900 edition) "Printed by the Burton Club for private subscribers only" in a "De Luxe Edition" limited to 250 copies. Future volumes will likely use the version at http://www.wollamshram.ca/1001/ as a starting point, but proofreading will continue to be in accordance with the Burton Club edition, of which I have a complete set. There is now a complete set of scans. Volume 3 has the most progress at this time, and once cleaned up, can serve as a model for the rest of the set, --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:39, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
completion and scans
[edit]I'm bringing over scans of the limited edition. There is two or three copies available from the publisher (the link-breaking "[S.l.] : Printed by the Burton Club for private subscribers only") linked from this page and others, but one set the supplementary volumes are mistitled with that of the main 10 volumes:
- Index:A plain and literal translation of the Arabian nights entertainments, now entitled The book of the thousand nights and a night, volume 1.djvu.
- The supplement begins with: Index:Supplemental Nights to the book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, volume 1.djvu
After glancing through the preface I noticed the latter contains texts by Payne and others, these would be a good start to building the various versions of these. Cygnis insignis (talk) 22:53, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned pages
[edit]There are three pages, which don't seem to be linked from the main body:
- The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night/Appendix I
- The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night/Appendix II
- The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night/Terminal Essay
Does anyone know where they should go ? -- Beardo (talk) 07:58, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Expurgated / Unexpurgated
[edit]The first volume — Index:The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night - Volume 1.djvu — is from the expurgated 1894 English edition. The other volumes in the DJVU set are from various Burton Club editions which, while pirated, appear to follow the original text. Judging by the discussion, no one seems to be using the 1894 as a reference, but it might still be worth addressing the anomaly. Utilisateur19911 (talk) 18:53, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
