In four States the age of consent is fixed at the shockingly low age of ten years, in four others at twelve, in three at thirteen, and so on, increasing, except in Delaware, where the original statute pertaining to the crime of rape is still unrepealed, fixing the age at seven years.

Confused by "original statute", at Wikipedia:Age_of_consent_reform#United_States it presently reads regarding 1880:

Delaware maintained its age of consent at seven years, having lowered it from 10 in 1871

This sounds like age 7 was not the original statute, that age 10 was the original statute in 1870 and earlier. Would anyone happen to have any articles reporting on that from the time? EphFan (talk) 20:35, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
