Not sure what to make of all this "second series" business -Pete (talk) 07:34, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think it's simply that, as w:Overland Monthly says, "In January 1883, the effort reverted to The Overland Monthly (starting again with Volume I, number 1)."--Prosfilaes (talk) 02:12, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Prosfilaes: Ah, good sleuthing :) I guess I coulda looked there. I'd tried the mental math and thought I had ruled something like that out, but I probably neglected that they seem to have consistently had two volumes per year. Anyway, thanks for setting me straight. Now, what would be the best naming convention for that? I shudder at the possible complexity, like The Overland Monthly/Series 2/Volume 1/Issue 1/Tiny Poem -Pete (talk) 17:13, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just noting here, I just decided on The Overland Monthly/Series 2/Volume xyz/... as a format, seems like maybe the least bad option. The next layer is something I've dealt with, with other pubs, as follows:
Pub name/Volume 1/Article name for most articles, and
Pub name/Volume 1/Issue 1/Article name where there is redundancy (e.g., if the article name is "Book Reviews" and there are four "Book Reviews" features in different issues within one volume.) Seems excessive to specify issue number for every single article, but provided that everything is linked diligently, I think it's fine to mix these naming approaches.
Open to feedback of course...like I said, none of the approaches seems really ideal from the reader's perspective. -Pete (talk) 02:27, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
