Dash lengths

In the scanned copy of Chimenys, dashes appear with widely varying lengths. The length the dashes seems to be largely arbitrary with respect to the content of the text and oftentimes appear to have been lengthened or shortened merely to aid the typesetter in the task of justifying the line lengths. This suggests that dashes should be standardized in the transcription, but it looks like preceding editors have tried to reflect the dash lengths by stringing together multiple em dashes. Would anyone object to my stripping out the duplications? JamesLucas (talk) 15:04, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

Follow-up: It seems like I happened to improbably encounter two of the few instances of deprecated double em dashes, when most other pages use the accepted {{bar}} template. The text generally uses a standard em dash to represent an interruption and a double-long em dash to represent a trailing off, but it’s often inconsistent. It seems like faithfulness to the source text is the accepted standard here, so I am making no changes other than to convert —— to —— where appropriate. —jameslucas ^{▄▄▄ ▄ ▄▄▄ ▄▄▄ ▄} 02:46, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
