dictionary.com however refuses to recognize the form 'appelation'. it says it should read appellation. which I think is right. typo?
- Well, things weren't quite as solid in American-English in those days, especially the 1830s. It's likely Poe used the term "appelation" before it was officially set in stone as "appellation". I'd believe the dictionary.com is modern and, therefore, "correct" by our standards. Either way, I wouldn't call Poe's term a "typo". --Midnightdreary (talk) 03:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

- There is a transcript available at eapoe.org Cygnis insignis (talk) 23:53, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
- There also is a scanned version of the very first printing available at the Making of America Journal Archive. Note, that the leading epigraph does not appear in this first printing (as it does in later editions), so still a source for the Wikisource-Version should be given.
