Paragraph numbers

It isn't much use for reference without paragraph numbers so I am starting to put those in just as they are in the Great Books edition of Jowett. Of course that edition lacks the a, b, c, etc and the line numbers so if anyone has a better idea let's have it.Botteville 11:11, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Help request: Remove or continue the partial paragraph numbers?

I'm not here a lot, and I have real life limitations to deal with, so if someone could please pick this up I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

There are numbers in square brackets and italics which User:Botteville added in 2007. They are paragraph numbers according to Jowett, the translator of this version, so as far as Botteville went, he was correct.

However, there are some problems that need to be addressed:

1. The numbers are not identified as paragraph numbers, and there are other numbers in square brackets but not italics that are not paragraph numbers but are part of the text. This distinction must be explained and probably improved upon.
2. The paragraph numbers begin with [17], which looks like a mistake. http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Plat.+Tim.+17a shows that it is not; in the Tufts-hosted translation by Lamb, Timaeus runs from section 17a to 92c. However, Lamb's section numbers might not match up with Jowett's, so we can't use it as a reference.
3. I couldn't find an explanation here nor at the Tufts site for the numbers' starting with 17. This should be explained. I assume Timaeus is part of a larger work, but the other works of Plato at the Tufts site's sidebar did not line up numerically in the order given, nor did it provide an overall title.
4. The Jowett numbers entered by Botteville range from [17] to [27], with the last number only partway down the page. There is no [28], italicized or not. These numbers should either be continued based on Jowette or removed, even temporarily.

The lack of section/paragraph numbers explains why Wikipedia citations refer to the Tufts site even though we have this text here. (Actually, the Stable Identifiers section of the Tufts site has some problems, but I'm too tired to tell them so go ahead if you like. http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Plat.+Tim.+53c shows the incorrect URLs for the bottom three links in that section, IIRC.)
