ఊ
ఊ u, The sixth letter in the Telugu alphabet.
ఊక uka, s. The husk of paddy, vide ఉముక umuka.
ఊకించు ukintsu, v. a. To shake ; to agitate, or move. 2. To endeavour* or make an effort.
ఊకొట్టు, ఊకొను ukottu, ukonu, v. a. To make a sort of noise, so as to shew that one is listening to a speaker. 2. To listen, or hear.
ఊగు ligu, v. n. To swing; to be agitated, or shaken. ఊగులాడు uguladu, To swing. ఊగులాట ugulata, s. Swinging. ఊగించు ugintsu, v. a. To shake; to move; to swing or rock.
ఊచ utsa, s. The stalk of the Holcus accharatus or great millet, commonly termed Jonnalu, before the grain is ripe. 2. The tender inside of the plantain tree, terminating in the stalk, which bears the fruit. ఊచబియ్యము utsabiyyamu,s. Tender or unripe grain of the Jonnalu or great millet.
ఊచు utsu, v. n. The falling off of tho hair from sickness.

ఊట uta, s. A natural spring or fountain of water. 2. The sap of plants, 3. The juice of fruits. 4. The liquor of pickles, adj. Heavy. 2. Abounding in springs, moist. 3. Full of sap. 4. Juicy.
ఊటాడు litadu, v. n. To move as the waves of the sea, to be violently agitated, or shaken.
ఊడ uda s 5. Fibrous roots* which grow downwards from the branches of the banyan, and other trees.
ఊడిగము udigamu, s. Slavery. 2. Domestic service. ఊడిగపువాడు udigapuvadu, A slave ; a vassal. 2. A domestic servant. ఊడు udu, v. n. To be separated, loosened, or unfastened. 2. To take flight. 3. To be dismissed.
ఊడుచు, ఊడ్చు udutsu, lidtsu, v. a. To sweep. 2. To relax, loosen, or slacken. 3. To transplant. ఊడుపు udupu, s. Sweeping. 2. Transplant- ing. ఉడుపుమడి udupumadi, s. A plot or field in which grain has been transplanted.

ఊద uda, s. Envy. 2. A swelling, a tumor. ఊదకడుపు udakadupu, s. A pot belly.
ఊదర udara, s. A great smoke. ఊదరబెట్టు udarabefctu, To smoke an animal in a hole, in order to de- stroy it.
ఊదా uba, adj. Of a brown colour.
ఊదు udu, v. a. To blow. 2. To blow a fire with the breath, or with a bellows. 3. To blow out a light. The natives seldom extinguish a light with the breath, because fire is deemed a minor divinity. 4. To blow or 'sound any wind instrument. 5. To lean upon. v. n. To be sweln. ఊదువాద్దెము uduvaddemu, A wind instrument. ఊదించు udintsu, v. Caus. To cause to blow, as above. ఊదిపోవు udipovu, To be swoln. 2. To be puffed with wind, ఊదినవెండి udinavendi, Eure silver.
ఊనము unamu, adj. Less. 2. Defective, s. Defect ; maim. 2. Injury.
ఊను, ఊన్చు unu, untsu, v. a. To fix firmly, to place steadfastly. ఊనిమాట్లాడు unimatlada, To speak firmiy-

ఊపు upu, v. a. vide ఊచు utsu.
ఊపురము upuramu, s. The protuberance or hump on the neck of Indian oxen.
ఊబవాడు ubavaclu, s. A eunuch.
ఊబి ubi, s. Mud, mire.
ఊరక uraka, adv. Commonly written ఊరికె urike, Without emotion of any kind; quietly, silently, peaceably. 2. At leisure, in idleness, without employment. 3. "Without cause, reason, or meaning. 4. Only. 5. Gratis. 6. For pastime. 7. Without success. 8. Constantly.
ఊరకంద lirakanda, s. The root termed Tacca pinnatifida, often used as food by the natives,
ఊరడించు uradintsn, v. a. To Comfort; to console; to appease. 2. To condole with.
ఊరడిలు, ఊరడిల్లు uradilu, uradilln, v. n. To be consoled, comforted, or appeased. ఊరపంది urapandi, 5. The tame or domestic hog, opposed to the wild hoo*.

ఊరుపు urupu, s. Breath. నిట్టూరుపు nitturupu, A sigh.
ఊరేగు uregu, v. n. To go in procession, through a village, or town. This is applied to marriage, or religious processions.
ఊరేగించు uregintsu, v. Caus. To cause to go in procession. <fcc. ఊరేగింపు uregimpu, A procession, &c. As above.
ఊర్చు urtsu, v. a. To respire. 2. To sigh. 3. To rub together, and collect with the hand the remains of food, on a plate, or in a vessel, or any liquid that falls on the ground,
ఊర్జితము urjitamu, adj. Confirmed; strengthened. 2 Stable.
ఊర్ధ్వము urdhwamu, adv. On high, above.
ఊర్ధ్వలోకము urdhwa lokamu, s. Heaven,

ఊరుగాయ urugaya, s. Pickled fruit.
ఊరుబచ్చడి urubatstaadi, s. Fruit first mashed, and tben pickled.
ఊరుబిండి urubindi, s. Any pulse, 'fried with ghee and chill}-, then ground, and made iuto a thick mixture, by the addition of salt, and water.
