Template:EOstart
DRAFT
To do
[edit]- Add conditional support for optional parameters to make it work for George Washington (no previous president) and whomever is the current president (as there is no subsequent president to link).
- Add in the wild flexibility that would be needed for Grover Cleveland′s non-consecutive terms.
Usage
[edit]This helps create simple, standardized forms for Executive Orders from United States Presidents. To start, create the page Author:Example/Executive orders and then include this template with the following parameters:
prev
: the author name of the previous president to the one whose page you are editing. Optional but actually required for everyone other than Author:George Washington.prevname
: the conventional name of the previous president to the one whose page you are editing that will be displayed. Optional but actually required for everyone other than Author:George Washington. This name may be the same asprev
but will sometimes be different: e.g. Martin Van Buren is the same but Joseph Robinette Biden and Joe Biden are not the same.current
: the author name of the current president whose page you are editing. Required.currentname
: the conventional name of the current president whose page you are editing. Requirednext
: the author name of the next president to the one whose page you are editing. Optional but actually required for everyone other than whomever is the current president.nextname
: the conventional name of the president after the one whose page you are editing. Optional but actually required for everyone other than whomever is the current president.start
: start date of the term of the president whose page you are editing. Required.end
: end date of the term of the president whose page you are editing. Required. In the case of the incumbent, include''present''
.first
: the executive order number that is the first one for the president whose page you are editing. Optional but required for presidents from Author:Abraham Lincoln onward, as earlier presidents did not have numbered executive orders. Several nineteenth century presidents still have unnumbered executive orders but this drops off by the 20th century.last
: the executive order number that is the last one for the president whose page you are editing. Optional but required for presidents from Author:Abraham Lincoln onward, as earlier presidents did not have numbered executive orders. Several nineteenth century presidents still have unnumbered executive orders but this drops off by the 20th century.sort
: the alphabetical sorting of the name of the president whose page you are editing. Required.
Note that Grover Cleveland is a unique case, having served two non-consecutive terms, so his page should not use this template. If someone wants to put in the effort to make this flexible enough for his executive orders page, go for it. Otherwise, it should just be copied and pasted manually into his page.
Once you have added this template, continue to {{EOyear}}, adding one instance for every year that person was president.
Example
[edit]{{EOstart |prev=George Herbert Walker Bush |prevname=George H. W. Bush |current=William Jefferson Clinton |currentname=Bill Clinton |next=George Walker Bush |nextname=George W. Bush |start=January 20, 1993 |end=January 20, 2001 |first=12834 |last=13197 |sort=Clinton, Bill }}
results in:
← EOstart | EOstart |
The following list includes executive orders delivered by Bill Clinton. See also Category:Executive orders of William Jefferson Clinton. |
Administration of Bill Clinton (January 20, 1993 – January 20, 2001)
Range: Executive Orders 12834–13197 (Total: 6)
Note that transcluding this template here on a template documentation page creates some unexpected behavior with the initial text and would miscategorize this documentation as an author subpage. This can be ignored: it will work properly in the Author
namespace.
