Usage

[edit]

Using this template {{GOD}} gives "GOD", the standard translation with w:small capitals for the Hebrew name for God (יהוה, transliterated as w:JHVH, interpreted as w:Jehovah), as it is translated in the w:King James Bible and other English Bibles, in the special case when it is in proximity to the Hebrew name Adonai, also meaning "Lord". In this case, "Adonai Jehovah" is translated as "Lord GOD" or "Lord GOD". (See also the LORD.)

The w:all caps or w:small caps writing differentiate this from "God" in normal type.

Technical

[edit]

This template is a hardcoded instance of {{LORD|G|OD}}.

The template uses the spelling "GOD", presented in customized w:small capitals. The style remains full capitals when the text is copy-pasted (unless into an application that accepts pasted style), or when it is displayed in degraded form in a non-CSS, text-only, or crude mobile browser, and when it is displayed as a text snippet in some search-engines results page. In such cases, the word shows as "GOD" in full capitals.

If it is desired that the copy-pasted result be "God", then the {{Smallcaps}} template should be used instead: {{smallcaps|God}}God.

Technical

[edit]

The template wraps code around an all-caps "GOD" so that the all-caps word is preserved when the text is copy-pasted, or when it is displayed in degraded form on a non-CSS or mobile browser, or when it is displayed as a text snippet on a search engine results page. (See also Template:sc.)
