This template is for word-by-word interlinear translations, with each word above an English translation.

Usage

[edit]

For each pair of a non-English word and its English translation, use:

  • {{ilt|non-English lang code|non-English word|English translation}}

You may also need to use {{clear}} after the translation, to make sure that any subsequent text is beneath it.

Blackletter

[edit]

If you want the entire non-English word to be rendered in a blackletter font, set the |bl= parameter to 1:

  • {{ilt|lang|bl=1|non-English word|English translation}}

If you only want part of the non-English word to be rendered in a blackletter font (for example, if you want footnotes or punctuation to be non-blackletter), then do not use the |bl= parameter, and instead wrap the parts of the non-English word you do want to be blackletter in the {{bl}} template.

Extract translation

[edit]

In cases where you want to extract the translation separately from the interlinear translation, you can add a part of the title of the page where you will transclude the extracted translation, which does not occur in the Page: namespace title or the interlinear translation page title, as the fourth parameter:

  • {{ilt|lang|non-English word|English translation|unique part of extract page title}}

In cases where the text you want to extract is different from the English translation (for example, different formatting, footnotes, etc.), you can add this as the fifth parameter:

  • {{ilt|lang|non-English word|English translation|unique part of extract page title|extracted text, if it varies from the English translation}}
Example
[edit]
  • Page namespace title: Page:Example interlinear book/1
  • Mainspace interlinear transclusion title: Example interlinear book/Example translation
  • Mainspace extracted translation title: Example translation (author/translator)

Code on page:

  • {{ilt|lang|non-English word|English translation|(author/translator)}}

or just:

  • {{ilt|lang|non-English word|English translation|(}}
