Template:Italic/doc

From Wikisource

Template to swap italic and roman text within a span of text. This template can be used to change font style to italic without indicating a semantic purpose, i.e., for purely decorative reasons. Contrast this usage with the two straight apostrophes (''like this''), which indicate a technical term or alternative mood, and the {{em text}} template, which indicates an emphasis.

Note that using two straight apostrophes and {{em text}} within this template changes the font style back to upright.
