Template:Work without text link/doc

From Wikisource

Shortcut:
{{Wwtl}}

Purpose

[edit]

{{Work without text link}} is used to link directly to the file page of a work that does not include text. Works that do not include text to transcribe are not able to be hosted on Wikisource per the terms at Wikisource:What Wikisource includes.

This template serves a couple of purposes:

  1. To produce a useful link for readers, to allow them to view the contents of a work that does not contain text to transcribe. These can be placed on author pages, portals, within other works, etc.
  2. To discourage users from trying to add these works to Wikisource in the future. Many works linked through this template are notable works, enough to have Wikipedia articles about them, so it's not unlikely users may try to create the pages.

This template is especially useful to link to many silent films that were released between the late 19th and very early 20th centuries, since those films were often so short that no text was included in them.

Effect

[edit]

To link to the original source file of a reference underline the word of interest, and to produce a pop-up to show that the text is inconsistent in hyphenating this word.

Usage

[edit]

Parameter $1 is for the file name, and $2 is for the display text of the link [both mandatory].

The intention is to encapsulate the link in question
