NEW POPULAR EDITIONS OF
MARY JOHNSTON'S
NOVELS
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD
It was something new and startling to see an author's first novel sell up into the hundreds of thousands,as did this one. The ablest critics spoke of it in such terms as "Breathless interest," The high water mark of American fiction since Uncle Tom's Cabin," "Surpasses all," "Without a rival," "Tender and delicate," "As good a story of adventure as one can find," "The best style of love story, clean, pure and wholesome."
AUDREY
With the brilliant imagination and the splendid courage of youth, she has stormed the very citadel of adventure. Indeed it would be impossible to carry the romantic spirit any deeper into fiction.—Agnes Repplier.
PRISONERS OF HOPE
Pronounced by the critics classical, accurate, interesting, American, original, vigorous, full of movement and life, dramatic and fascinating, instinct with life and passion, and preserving throughout a singularly even level of excellence.
Each volume handsomely bound in cloth. Large 12 mo. size. Price, 75 cents per volume, postpaid.

BREWSTER'S MILLIONS
Mr. Montgomery Brewster is required to spend a million dollars in one year in order to inherit seven millions. How he does it forms the basis for one of the most crisp and breezy romances of recent years.

CHECKERS
A Hard Luck Story
By HENRY M. BLOSSOM, Jr.
Author of "The Documents in Evidence"
Abounds in the most racy and picturesque slang.—N.Y. Recorder.
"Checkers" is an interesting and entertaining chap s a distinct type, with a separate tongue and a way of saying things that is oddly humorous.—Chicago Record.
If I had to ride from New York to Chicago on a slow train, 1 should like a half-dozen books as gladsome at "Checkers" and I could laugh at the trip.—N. Y. Commercial Advertiser.
"Checkers" himself is as distinct a creation as Chimmie Fadden and his racy slang expresses a livelier wit. The racing part is clever reporting and as horsey and "up-to-date" as any one could ask. The slang of the race-course is caught with skill and is vivid and picturesque, and students of the byways of language may find some new gems of colloquial speech to add to their lexicons.—Springfield Republican.
A new popular edition just issued, in attractive cloth binding, small 12mo in size. Price, 75 cents, postpaid.

Brewster's Millions
BY
GEORGE BARR McCUTCHEON
The hero is a young New Yorker of good parts who, to save an inheritance of seven millions, starts out to spend a fortune of one million within a year. An eccentric uncle, ignorant of the earlier legacy, leaves him seven millions to be delivered at the expiration of a year, on the condition that at that time he is penniless, and has proven himself a capable business man, able to manage his own affairs. The problem that confronts Brewster is to spend his legacy without proving himself either reckless or dissipated. He has ideas about the disposition of the seven millions which are not those of the uncle when he tried to supply an alternative in case the nephew failed him. His adventures in pursuit of poverty are decidedly of an unusual kind, and his disappointments are funny in quite a new way. The situation is developed with an immense amount of humor.

No Field Collection is Complete
Without this Book
A LITTLE BOOK of
TRIBUNE VERSE
By EUGENE FIELD
Compiled and edited by Joseph G. Brown, formerly city editor of the Denver Tribune, and an intimate friend and associate of the poet during the several years in which he was on the staff of that paper.
This volume resurrects a literary treasure which has been buried for many years in the forgotten files of a newspaper, and it is, as nearly as it has been possible to make, an absolutely complete collection of the hitherto unpublished poems of the gifted author.
These poems are the early product of Field's genius. They breathe the spirit of Western life of twenty years ago. The reckless cowboy, the bucking broncho, the hardy miner, the English tenderfoot, the coquettish belle, and all the foibles and extravagances of Western social life, are depicted with a naiveté and satire, tempered with sympathy and pathos, which no other writer could imitate.
The book contains nearly three hundred pages, including an interesting and valuable introduction by the editor, and is printed from new type on fine deckle edge paper, and handsomely bound in cloth, with gilt tops.
