RUSCHENBERGER, William S. W., an American naturalist, born in Cumberland co., N. J., Sept. 4, 1807. He studied medicine in the university of Pennsylvania, became a surgeon in the United States navy in 1826, and as such circumnavigated the globe. He has published “Three Years in the Pacific” (8vo, Philadelphia, 1834); “A Voyage round the World, including an Embassy to Muscat and Siam” (1838); “Elements of Natural History” (2 vols. 12mo, 1850); “A Lexicon of Terms used in Natural History” (12mo, 1850); and “Notes and Commentaries during a Voyage to Brazil and China in the Year 1848” (8vo, 1854).
