Meet Emma

MALONELORDU.S. ARMY

Emma Malonelord

Hey, guys. I'm U.S. Army Corporal Emma Malonelord.

So, when I went off to college, at the suggestion of my mom, actually, I decided to join a sorority. I had my doubts about it at first, but as I got more involved in the community and more surrounded by these women, any preconceived misconceptions I had got absolutely blown out of the water. They were some of the most motivated and inspiring individuals that I've ever spent any time around.

And it made me kind of take a look at myself and go, "Okay, well, I'm surrounded by all these women, but what am I doing for myself? What am I proving to the world? What am I showing that I'm capable of?" And that's when I started looking at my future and what I wanted.

So, my only other big influence in choosing to join was my family. My moms have been together for about thirty-five years. They're the reason that I learned that I should never be held back because of who I love or the gender that I am or what religion I practice.

And I realized that the Army is just a giant melting pot. Everybody here is accepted no matter what walk of life you come from, no matter what language you speak, no matter who your family is. And the draw of that was a really big piece of me choosing to join.
