ABBA ARIKA, ȧ-rē′kȧ, also known as “Rab,” a Jewish scholar of Babylonia and the son of a distinguished family. He studied at Sepphoris, then went to Sura where he founded the academy of that name. He was one of the leaders of Jewish thought in Babylonia.
