BÖHM, Theobald, Bavarian musician: b. Munich, 9 April 1798; d. there 25 Nov. 1881. He was first flutist of the Munich Royal Orchestra for several years but is best known for his improvements in the construction and fingering of the flute. He wrote ‘Ueber den Flötenbau und die neuesten Verbesserungen desselben’ (1847) and ‘Die Flöte und das Flötenspiel.’ Consult Welch, ‘History of the Boehm Flute’ (London 1883).
