BARNARD, George Grey, American sculptor: b. Bellefonte, Pa., 24 May 1863. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the École Nationale des Beaux Arts, Paris, 1884-87. He first exhibited at the salon of 1894. In 1900 he received a gold medal at the Paris Exposition. Was for many years professor of sculpture in the Art Students' League, New York city. His chief works, largely symbolical in character, are ‘Brotherly Love,’ ‘The Two Natures’ (in the Metropolitan Museum), ‘The God Pan’ (Central Park), and ‘The Hewer.’ His studio is in Paris.
