BRUCKER, brook'er, Johann Jakob, German historian: b. Augsburg, Bavaria, 22 Jan. 1696; d. there, 26 Nov. 1770. He was educated at Jena and in 1744 became pastor at Augsburg. His most important work is a ‘Critical History of Philosophy’ (1741-44), in Latin, which was the first complete history of the different philosophical schools. It contains biographical matter of great value.
