KLÖDEN, klėr'dĕn, Karl Friedrich von,
German educator and geographer: b. Berlin,
1786; d. 1856. He received his education while
apprenticed to a goldsmith; became Potsdam
normal school director in 1817, and director,
seven years later, in a Berlin commercial
school. His chief geographical works are
'Landeskunde von Pälastina' (1816);
'Grundlinien zu einer neuen Theorie der Erdgestaltung'
(1824). Prominent among his historical
works are 'Ueber die Enstehung, das Alter
und die früheste geschichte der Städte Berlin
und Köln' (1839); 'Lebens und Regierungs
geschichte Friedrich Wilhelms III' (1840);
'Die Quitzows und ihre Zeit' (3d ed., 1889).
