LATTMANN, lăt'mân, Julius, German educator: b. Goslar, 4 March 1818; d. Göttingen, 20 Aug. 1898. He was educated at the University of Göttingen, taught in the gymnasium at Göttingen in 1847-60, and in 1870-90 he was director of the gymnasium at Clausthal. He was deeply interested in theories of linguistic teaching and reforms therein, and wrote a large number of textbooks. Author of ‘Kombination der methodischen Principien im lateinischen Unterricht’ (1882; 2d ed., 1888); ‘Cornelii Nepotis Liber Emendatus et Suppletus’ (1880; 8th ed., 1889); ‘Ausgleichende Lösung der Reformbewegungen des höheren Schulwesens’ (1889), etc.
