MARSHALL, mär'shạl, Alfred, English economist: b. London, 26 July 1842. He was educated at Saint John's College, Cambridge, and in 1877 was principal of University College, Bristol. In 1883-84 he was lecturer at Balliol College, Oxford, from 1885-1908 he was professor of political economy at Cambridge University, and a member of the Royal Commission on Labor in 1891. He has published ‘Economics of Industry’ (1879); ‘Principles of Economics’ (1890); ‘Elements of Economics’ (1891); ‘Fiscal Policy of International Trade’ (1903), etc.
