OCHS, George Washington, American journalist, brother of Adolph S. Ochs (q.v.): b. Cincinnati, 27 Oct. 1861. He was graduated at the University of Tennessee in 1879. He was mayor of Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1894-95 and in 1896-97. He published the Paris edition of the New York Times at the Paris Exposition in 1900; and in 1901-02 he was general manager of the Philadelphia Times. He was editor of the Philadelphia Ledger in 1902-15, since when he has edited the Current History Magazine and the New York Times' Mid-Week Pictorial. He is a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor.
